My career focus is within the web sector (Web Design and Web Development).
I have built on my skills and knowledge within this field since leaving university by setting up my personal web server at home with PHP and MySQL installed. This has allowed me to learn new techniques within web development and expand skills acquired during my time at university.
I have always been highly motivated in improving my web development skills. When browsing if I come across an interesting web site, I look at the source code to learn how they achieved it. I then attempt to replicate it on my own website (www.smacleod.co.uk). I am committed to broadening my expertise through extensive reading and research. I am able to interpret new technology and innovation and adapt it to the client's needs.

Junior Web Developer/Tester - BPP Learning Media Livingston (August-October 2009)
I had to work within a small team to create a new E-Learning application called "CIMA Interactive Passcards". This application used the technologies XHTML, CSS, XML and JavaScript. My main role was to take the complex content from the multiple authors and reproduce it in a well structured readable manner using the XHTML. This task also required me to add interactive features to the content such as "More Info" pop-up boxes and XML questions based on each section. I also was required to carry out various testing on their wide range of developing applications.
This contract has given me valuable experience of working to tight deadlines and also working in a small team to achieve a common goal.
Freelance Web Designer (June 2008-Present)
My most recent projects:
Each project required me to communicate with the client to gather the requirements of the website, then design and build the website to meet their specifications. This has given me valuable experience within commercial web design as well as improving my communication and web designing skills. The technologies used within these websites are XHTML, CSS, Photoshop, JavaScript, Flash and PHP.
John Lewis Edinburgh (June 2002-May 2010)
I have been employed at John Lewis Edinburgh since 2002. My job title is a Supply Chain Assistant. This job requires me to work in a large team in the movement and organisation of stock within the shop.
